01:46 pm It's only when you're so far removed from yourself, when you're far enough away to look at yourself from the outside, that you can get a perspective on what really matters. I mean, sure, there's stuff going on, and it doesn't feel great, but you realise that a lot of it is pretty insignificant stuff really.
And then you look at other people, and when they start talking, I mean really talking, when you get past the small talk of "hi, how was your day?", and people start telling you what they really think and feel, and what they're having to deal with, that you realise what really matters. It's a very humbling experience. Current Mood: contemplative

10:24 am - Website Stuff I decided to buy hosting yesterday, £40 for a year at Brinkster. But I'm beginning to have doubts about it now. I don't even know if they support ASP.NET v2.0 for one thing, and they're giving me crap about my address being wrong. The site claims there's a 90 day money back guarantee on it, so maybe I should do that if I'm not pleased. I mean seriously, it doesn't even have SQL Server included. It's got Mysql, but I'm not yet sure how easy it is to connect to from ASP.NET.
I updated my site to ASP.NET anyway though. I figure, I can keep running it from my own computer if this Brinkster crap doesn't work out. It's a little confusing at first, but it's worth it, the amount of stuff that's just so much easier, like templates and breadcrumbs. Maybe one of these days I'll actually add some content to the thing. Don't hold your breath though.
I'm wondering if I should think about some new years resolutions while I'm at it. Never done it before, but it might be quite useful to have some short term goals to work at. Let's see..
- Contribute a bit more to OSS. Bit difficult to think how, since I don't know anything like C/C++ well. But maybe I could contribute back some PHP to Gallery or something. Might be quite fun.
- Learn to cook more stuff. I really dislike the crap they call ready meals in supermarkets these days. The ideal meal would be
- Cheap
- Good portions
- Tasty
but supermarkets these days tend to be "choose two".
- Take at least one photo per day. I haven't taken any photos in what seems like forever. Not any that I actually like anyway. I took quite a few over christmas though, mostly of Luke and Daniel, my cousins. I might post some of them here if I can remember what I did with my camera cable.
- Stop posting to Livejournal privately! Ok, maybe not completely, but most posts I mark private need not be.
That should be just about enough to go on. Current Music: Our Lady Peace - The World On A String

03:08 pm Apparently my ISP has webcams up of all their offices. That's so weird, I wonder if they employees even know about it. Maybe it's just one of those tactics to get everyone working harder. Watching porn again, Mr Anderson? The entire world can see you! *evil laugh* Current Mood: amused

08:55 am - Hair I dyed my hair dark brown today. I did have it dark purple before, but it faded to a kind of red, and it looked kinda shitty. Looks a lot better now though. I might see if I can get it cut at the weekend, it's getting on my nerves. Current Mood: content Current Music: Yaida Hitomi - B'coz I Love You

03:17 am - Going Postal I bought the new Discworld book today from Tesco. I think it's the new one anyway, I've never actually read any Discworld books all the way through yet. I started reading it at lunch, and it's hilarious. On being hanged:
"Do you really think all this deters crime, Mr Trooper?", he said.
"Well, in the generality of things I'd say it's hard to tell, given that it's hard to find evidence of crimes not commited," said the hangman, giving the trapdoor a final rattle. "But in the specificality, sir, I'd said it's very efficacious."
"Meaning what?" said Moist.
"Meaning I've never seen someone up here more'n once, sir. Shall we go?"

06:32 pm - Fireworks After all these years, I'm still scared of fireworks. I mean, they're pretty and all, but I really don't like sudden loud noises, and they usually have a display literally just across the road from me, so it's pretty damned loud. I wrapped the little ones up in towels though, so they won't be too scared :P Current Mood: distressed Current Music: SweetS - I am I / MAI

06:55 am - Seona Dancing Crazy, who knew Ricky Gervais used to be an 80's pop star? Really, it looks like a completely different person, he's really let himself go since those days. Gotta admit though, he doesn't look all that bad for an 80's style.

06:32 am - That Time of Year Again I really am going to try writing in this thing more often now, honest :P I should really write a template for it, I haven't written in this journal in $months months now!
I decided to remake my Livejournal style a bit, not got a clue how it all works though. _nikki suggested I make it pink, so I did! Quite scary really, but I should be able to change them easily enough when I get it all finished. Current Mood: geeky Current Music: 宇多田ヒカル - Be My Last
